Week 2: Maxi's 'Roaming Gnome'

(( click on the image to enlarge ))

I don't want to forecast anything yet, specially considering what we learned from the last contest where Nadia brought in an amazing looking Apple Pie and everybody was saying it was going to be the winner no matter what... and in the end, she was the only one without even 1 single vote. She could have at least voted for herself, or ask a friend to vote... or her dog... someone.
Anyway, this week's painting looks very good, but we'll have to wait and see.
It's really hard to find bad things in this painting, and doing critiques on good things is not funny. I mean this picture looks so good that, as you just read, I had to find a way to pick on Nadia instead.... sorry about that Nadia, blame it on Maxi.
The worst part is that when he sent the email with the picture attached he said he "wished he had more time to really put a bigger
effort on this" or something like that... Ok, I'm sorry Donatello.
Besides, we’re pretty sure you’re Dad helped you on this one so don’t brag too much, ok?
In the picture we see a nice looking Gnome, drinking beer apparently in Germany, eating cheese and fishing. Not really sure what the right side of the picture means, maybe we’ll have different opinions, but it seems to be a clearly failed attempt to illustrate the ‘rest of the world’ or something. Last time I checked, my friend Colombus was right and the earth was still a sphere, so that’s not very accurate. Other than that, details in the background look very cool.
Overall, a really hard-to-beat painting. We'll see what the people have to comment.
See you next week!

Week 1: Juli's "The Gnome Came To BA"

(( Click on the image to enlarge ))

We finally have our first entry. Juli took the first place in the contest delivering his piece of
art called "The Gnome Came To BA".
At first glance the painting displays a large variety of colors wich generates a nice atmosphere, and it is inevitable to trace a paralelism with Juli's colorful cake for the last contest. Clearly, he really likes rainbows.
The gnome has obviously been replaced by a stunt doble for this painting, because he doesn't quite look like the actual Travelocity gnome, but still has nice details and even though we can tell it's a fake gnome, it looks pretty good.
Evidently Juli lost interest at the end because if you notice the two pedestrians that are walking by in the background, they're just doodles, and not very good ones. In fact they scare me a little bit. They look like they've been burnt alive or something.
Another unrealistic thing about this picture is how nice and friendly BA appears to be... Try adding a huge traffic jam and some car smoke, then we can start to get a bit closer to reality. But aside from all this, we're getting a nice piece of art to start our gallery, we'll see what the people have to comment about this.
See you next week!
